Mundaka Upanishad 1 and 2,
Arsha Vidya Centre – Research and Publication
&
Every Upanishad is a word mirror which reveals to the one who is looking at it, that he is the only one which exists, sustains everything, and unto which everything resolves. Two volumes of Mundaka Upanishad are the first of a series of books on Upanishads, based on class materials compiled and edited by Arsha Vidya Centre, Research and Publication. The book
comprises the entire Sanskrit text of the Upanishad with transliteration, word to word meaning, and an elaborate explanation based on commentary of
Sankara.
The Upanishad begins with Saunaka asking his teacher Angiras to teach him ‘that knowing which everything is as well known’. In answering that question, a wide range of methods are employed to reveal the identity between
Isvara and the individual.
Bhagavad Gita,
Arsha Vidya Centre – Research and Publication
The book comprises the entire Sanskrit text of the Bhagavad Gita with roman transliteration and translation in English. Swami Dayananda says that, “The reading of the Bhagavad Gita verses with meaning should be looked upon as a part of one’s daily prayer. One can easily cover one chapter in a sitting, daily. This inspiring routine will make this book your unfailing companion.”
Exploring Vedanta,
Arsha Vidya Centre – Research and Publication
This is the first of a series of books titled ‘Exploring Vedanta’, where some significant sentences from any one Upanishad are taken for inquiry. The first sentence is from Kaivalya Upanishad, where the first line of the teaching is ‘Know [Brahman] through
sraddha, faith; bhakti, devotion; and dhyana, meditation’. The second sentence which is from Brhadaranyaka Upanishad begins with ‘Suppose this person were to know about Brahman’ and reveals the fulfillment of a person who has the knowledge of the self.
“The sentences revealing the equation between energy and matter does not mean anything to the one who is not prepared. The sentences in Vedanta are no exception; they need to be analyzed for understanding. The process of analysis implies negation of all possible but wrong meanings leaving the intended vision of the sentence like daylight. This is what we call
Vakyavicara.” Swami Dayananda
Living intelligently, The need for cognitive change, Arsha Vidya Centre – Research and Publication
This is the first of a series of books based on ‘Public Talks’ of Swami Dayananda on two different topics. The first topic,
‘How to live intelligently’, is an aspiration of all individuals. Swamiji claims that living intelligently requires one to
recognize the presence of Isvara. Only when one finds oneself connected to
Isvara, one becomes pragmatic. He claims that, in the final analysis, this understanding does not involve bringing
Isvara into one’s life but in discovering that Isvara is
already there in all aspects of one’s life.
The second topic highlights the importance of ‘The need for cognitive change’ on the part of an individual to live
effectively. The present day society with its intense competition has led to progress in one hand but also has resulted in
many complexities. In order to meet the challenges of life, one needs to understand life and its meaning differently. Swamiji
iterates that the study of Vedanta enables one to initiate cognitive change in several areas to the extent that one finally
discovers that ‘I am the whole’.
Discovering love, Successful living, Arsha Vidya Centre – Research and Publication
The second volume of ‘Public Talks’ series of Swami Dayananda, first discusses about ‘Discovering love’.
Love is one of the most sought after and yet elusive thing for every human being. Swamiji says that love is a profound word that needs to be
understood. In the vision of the Vedanta, what one really loves is not an object or a person outside, but oneself. One loves
oneself, the self that is pleased. One also loves others who invoke the pleased self in him or her. This talk is about the
discovery of love for oneself that ultimately enables one to show love towards others in the form of compassion, sympathy,
etc.
The second topic, ‘Successful Living’, shows that both success and failure are relative terms. When desires become demands,
we think that unless we fulfill them we are not successful. Swamiji says: “When you do what is right even though you do not
like doing it, and avoid what is wrong, even though you want to do it, you slowly change. Later, you find yourself in a
position where what is to be done is what you like to do, and what is not to be done is what you do not like to do. That is,
indeed, a successful life.’ |
